What is the meaning of the ErP-Directive for Warm Air Heaters?

The directive 2009/125/EG from the european parliament and the council from 21th October 2009 handles the commitment of requirements for environmentally aware design for relevant energy consumption products and is implemented in the edict 2016/2281 EG for Warm Air Heaters.

Since the ErP is taking effect, Warm Air Heaters, which does not fit to the demanded requirements, must not have to put in the markets.

Which requirements are there?

  1. Requirements of efficiency
  2. Maximum permissible values for nitrogen oxide emissions:
    1. From 26th September 2018 maximum 100 mg/kWh (180 mg/kWh Oil)
    2. From 01th January 2021 maximum 70 mg/kWh (150 mg/kWh Oil)
  3. Informations must be free and public for use.

Transformation in two steps:

  1. From 01th January 2018: Seasonal Space Heating Energy Efficiency ηs  at least 72%
  2. From 01th January 2020: Seasonal Space Heating Energy Efficiency ηs at least 78%

What is the Seasonal Space Heating Energy Efficiency?

The Seasonal Space Heating Energy Efficiency is a performance figure, which considers the real operation mode of Heating Installations. This performance figure is not to mix up with the performance figure “Fuel Technical Efficiency”. The responsible commission of the directive has identified, that Heating Installations usually work with 85% in turndown mode and so just 15% at full load mode. Because of this perception, the heating efficiency will now be aligned. Furthermore inefficient burners, insulation and permanent igniting flame burners will be intended with negative factors. Because of this, the first time different manufacturers can be compared.
